This is a tailored reading tutoring Experience for children learning to read and those struggling with any components of English Language Arts (i.e. spelling, phonics, decoding, blending, segmenting, etc.). Hank is a therapy dog in the R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dog) Program. He goes into schools and libraries where kids read to him in a one-on-one tutoring session. These teacher-supervised sessions help students practice reading aloud, and gain confidence in their abilities by reading to a judgement-free, furry friend. If your child is shy or fearful reading to humans, give Hank a try!
Teacher Sarah will do a brief Q&A with parents prior to the session to get a feel for what aspects of reading the child needs the most assistance with, and the Experience will be tailored accordingly. At the end of the 2-hours, kids get to keep the book they read to Hank so that they can continue to practicing on their own. Also available as a learning series of 4+ Experiences.
Sarah's passion for the arts inspires her teaching philosophy, and she incorporates creativity and creative expression no matter the subject. Her background in both musical theater and education gives her the ability to think outside-the-box and engage kids in highly-immersive, hands-on experiences that fit their interests and encourage them to explore and learn in new ways. Sarah is quick to laugh, and connects easily with students of all ages.
