Summer Cooking and Learning

This immersive summer cooking and learning experience will get kids thinking, creating, and developing new skills in the kitchen. Beginning with an icebreaker, kids will imagine whether they're more like a specific fruit or vegetable, and why that is. Allie will read aloud a children's book on summer cooking, and guide a discussion about the story to check for comprehension and explore several themes. After a quick movement break, the troop will put on their chef's hats, and, voila! It's time to cook!

Kids will have a chance to look through the teacher-made cookbook and choose which recipe they'd like to make. They'll measure out their own ingredients as Allie sneaks in some math practice with fractions and doubling the recipe. Everyone will enjoy their edible masterpiece during a closing circle where kids will discuss how the experience made them feel!

What Parents Are Saying

We LOVED everything about Grasshopper! The customer service experience was exceptional! I felt like so much intentionality was taken to ensure that the activity would be both age appropriate and fun for my kids. Our experience leader was so easy going and chatted with the kids during the experience, and really took the time to engage and get to know them. We are definitely going to be using Grasshopper again! Thank you!

Grasshopper offered my daughter an opportunity to learn in a vibrant, fun setting that was continuously customized for her attention span and interests. Her Grasshopper teacher was fun, engaging and supremely personable. She took the time to get to know my daughter before diving into anything. I felt more than comfortable leaving my daughter in such capable hands…and love that she truly learned some new things from the experience. We will be using Grasshopper regularly to broaden her horizons and expose her to new concepts in a safe and compelling way. The icing on the cake is that the experience took place in our home, at a time that was convenient for us!

Our Grasshopper experience was amazing! I have four very curious kids at different ages with different interests, and the experience had all four of them engaged the whole time. Also, as an educator, I was very impressed with how the teacher led the program. She obviously knew what she was doing, and the minute she left, my kids were asking for another experience.

My girls loved the experience. The girls learned about recipes and practiced making some of them and customizing them to what they liked. They played some fun games and wrote down the recipes to make their own cook book. My kids said this was one of their favorite grasshoppers yet. The teacher cleaned up and was very thoughtful and organized.

My child learned all about space, the different planets and the moon! He got to make moon sand which he found fun of course getting to be hands on and dirty. Learning about craters in the sand and how they are formed. He even got to draw some space creatures. It was overall a fun experience for him and something we have never had before, we didn’t know what to expect but I was impressed!
