Our Camps: Enrichment that Feels Like Summer!

Summers should feel like breaks for kids, yet they can still be learning -- and don't have to cause additional headaches for parents.

For many kids, summer is the time for a much-needed break. Children's brains and regulatory systems are constantly developing, and during much of the year school environments offer lots of stimuli. While school breaks can offer kids time to reset and process the material they've learned, have rich experiences and more connection with family and friends; they are often inconvenient for parents and families.

We believe summers should be fun and enriching for kids -- and that they shouldn't cause additional headaches for parents.

For kids, summers are a cornerstone of childhood, full of friends and unique experiences, the source of fond memories they'll look back on when they're older. For parents and families, kids' camps ought to be engaging and enriching, and convenient; without the heavy burden of searching for, driving to, and coordinating compelling summer programming for every child.

Grasshopper Kids Camps and Summer Enrichment Series provide engagement and learning over the summer while preserving the feeling of "Summer!" for kids. They take place at home and with friends, and can feel like well organized playdates or carefree enrichment classes chock full of activities (which parents don't have to organize or attend!). We take pride in offering personalization that caters to the needs of every group.

Camps are held at home Monday through Fridays for either half days, from 9-12P or 1-4P, or full days from 9A-3P. For parents hosting, having a camp at home doesn't mean your work will be interrupted. Instead, you might hear laughter coming in through the windows, and feel the satisfaction of knowing your kids are enjoying themselves while learning something new. We hope it's a huge load off so you can be entirely in flow with whatever you're doing.

We understand that every group is unique and that's why we work closely with you beforehand to get a sense of who will be participating. With younger kids, we know that camps need to be more adaptable, and so we send teachers who are all-around-awesome and can navigate and keep kids engaged depending on their varying attention spans.

For example, for a group of 3-4-year-olds, we can offer a more general camp or a themed camp if there is a clear shared interest like sports, art, or music. Even if it's a themed camp, we ensure there is a lot of variety throughout the week, knowing that younger kids crave both routine and novelty.

Here's a sketch of what a camp for young kids, 3-4yos, might look like held at home for your child and 3-4 of their friends:

9-10A – Morning arts and crafts; possibly a multi-step craft that is broken up into 15 min increments -- eg 15 mins cutting, 15 mins painting, 15 mins drying while they sing songs or read a story, 15 mins gluing

10-10:30A – Story time; circle time with a book, songs, and discussion

10:30-11A – Break; wash hands, morning snack, potties

11-11:30A– Movement time; games in an outdoor area if available, Red Light Green Light, Simon Says, and more fun to get the wiggles out

11:30-12P – Wind down activity such a bubbles, another craft, puzzles, drawing, going on a bug hunt around the yard - time for kids to get in flow

For older and school-aged kids, Grasshopper Kids Camps can go deeper into concepts in fun and engaging ways. A week-long baking camp sampling French pastries from crepes to madeleines and more, with French vocabulary, culture, music, fashion and design learned about while patisseries bake and cool. Music mornings that help a child keep up with their instrument, but also gain exposure to a history of music and musical influences wholly new to them, and the ways in which artists compose melodies leveraging certain sounds and instruments in unique ways. The possibilities are endless!

If you have weeks during the summer when you're looking for summer enrichment that feels like "Summer!," during which you want to open up your child's world, then give Grasshopper Kids Camps a try!
