Performing Arts Camp

Teacher Matt has developed a theater and cinema experience only someone in 'the biz' can dream up. Kids will start with some intro-to-acting warmups that are good for budding performers or anyone with butterflies in their bellies! Light exercises will set the scene, and help Teacher Matt determine which way to steer his young company. For experience-goers who are naturally shy, Teacher Matt has just the thing, and always keeps things light, fun, creative, and conscientious of everyone's comfort-level in the spotlight.

Once loosened up, improv games will prompt laughter and get kids to pay attention to their surroundings. By exploring one's emotions, and how they can be acted out through facial expressions, dialogue, and writing, children will start to delve into acting (which is, of course, reacting!) and storytelling. Storyboarding is also on this experience's call sheet. By the end, kids will walk away with a sense of accomplishment and self-confidence that extends far beyond the reaches of the theatre. That's a wrap! 🎬

About Matt

Emmy-Winning Screenwriter and Home Cook

Teacher Matt is an award-winning script writer, editor, and Hollywood storyteller. His credits span decades, with notable WGA and Emmy awards (2020, 2019, 2018) honoring his outstanding writing contributions to the daytime drama, "The Young and the Restless." Teacher Matt has worked on countless independent film projects, and has been recognized at dozens of festivals for his screenplays. In his own words, "It’s an absolute joy to see a student’s face light up when they realize that learning something new has just opened a series of opportunities they never knew existed. Each day is one of discovery, for all of us, and I would love to help others embrace that with an open and interested mind."

Having been born with a heart murmur, Matt has always had to watch what he eats. As a result, he's spent countless hours scouring through cookbooks, experimenting with all sorts of healthy meals and snacks (for better or worse), and creating some of his own recipes. A writer at heart, Matt knows the importance of balancing work and meal prep time. In fact, it's cooking and creating recipes that relaxes him - it's as though each meal is a story that he's creating, and every ingredient adds to the story and (hopefully) makes it better, ultimately leading to a conclusion that everyone's happy with.

Matt is vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.

We LOVED everything about Grasshopper! The customer service experience was exceptional! I felt like so much intentionality was taken to ensure that the activity would be both age appropriate and fun for my kids. Our experience leader was so easy going and chatted with the kids during the experience, and really took the time to engage and get to know them. We are definitely going to be using Grasshopper again! Thank you!

Grasshopper offered my daughter an opportunity to learn in a vibrant, fun setting that was continuously customized for her attention span and interests. Her Grasshopper teacher was fun, engaging and supremely personable. She took the time to get to know my daughter before diving into anything. I felt more than comfortable leaving my daughter in such capable hands…and love that she truly learned some new things from the experience. We will be using Grasshopper regularly to broaden her horizons and expose her to new concepts in a safe and compelling way. The icing on the cake is that the experience took place in our home, at a time that was convenient for us!

Our Grasshopper experience was amazing! I have four very curious kids at different ages with different interests, and the experience had all four of them engaged the whole time. Also, as an educator, I was very impressed with how the teacher led the program. She obviously knew what she was doing, and the minute she left, my kids were asking for another experience.
