Things to know
📧 Onboarding & Accounts
Who will the Gusto email come from?
Your initial Gusto email will come from Caresplit / Grasshopper Kids and will be sent to the same email address you used for your application and recruiting process.
Can I edit my profile once it’s been created?
Yes! Just text us your updated marketing bio, and we’ll take care of it on our end.
How do I add additional experiences to my Teacher Profile?
Use the MEP (Magic Experience Planner) to create as many experiences as you would like!
👗 Dress Code & Professionalism
What should I wear to teach?
Dress professionally while keeping your subject in mind. For example, you probably wouldn’t wear jeans to teach basketball. Closed-toe shoes, jeans, and a nice shirt or t-shirt are usually perfect.
What if the school has a strict dress code?
We’ll share any special requirements with you ahead of time.
💰 Pay & Reimbursements
Do I get reimbursed for materials?
For all series other than cooking, your compensation already includes a built-in stipend for supplies. For the cooking series only, you can submit receipts to receive $10 per week for ingredients.
How do I get the extra cooking reimbursement?
We’ll text you a form during the 1st and last week of your series. The reimbursement is $10 per class you teach (example: a 13-week series = $130 total).
🧾 Compliance & Policies
What’s the deadline for completing compliance?
You have 10 days to complete compliance, but we recommend knocking it out ASAP.
Are teachers required to be vaccinated for COVID-19?
Grasshopper doesn’t require the vaccine, but some schools may have their own policies.
If I can’t make a class, does it count as an unexcused absence?
As long as you notify us at least two weeks before the class, it won’t be counted as an unexcused absence.
📸 Photos & Parent Communication
Can I send photos of students to parents?
Please upload all photos to your teacher reflection, not directly to parents. This keeps class time distraction-free and prevents a flood of parent messages. We recommend the photos focus on the activity rather than the student
Can parents attend a final showcase if I choose to have one?
Sometimes! Let us know your idea, and we’ll work with the school to arrange a short viewing at pickup on the last day. While not guaranteed, it’s definitely possible!
📚 Classes & Scheduling
Do any classes run longer than one hour?
Yes, but only for special events or summer camps. You’ll always know the length before booking.
Are there opportunities to teach during the school day?
Occasionally! While most classes are 3–5 PM, some opportunities pop up at libraries, preschools, or community centers.
Does Grasshopper provide instruments for music classes?
We don’t provide or ship instruments. Plan flexible lessons that don’t rely on specific instruments. If a school has extras, that’s simply a bonus!
Can I bring an additional helper to class?
No, anyone in the classroom must be a Grasshopper contractor and fully compliant.
Is there a minimum of classes I need to teach to stay an active Grasshopper teacher?
We love to see you teaching, but there’s no minimum requirement. As long as you stay compliant and have an up-to-date signed contract, you’ll remain part of the Grasshopper platform.
