As the teacher today went smoothly. As I noted, we had a little kind of ceremony at in the garden area. And then I was more on my own today, which is great. And Otherwise it went good. I mean kids they had a special event today, so the energy was pretty high but it was a good time.

Hey, this is Jason heading out from my final nurture, nature, Bay Breeze, explorers, enrichment class. Sad to see those kids go because we had so much fun, but today, we wrapped it, they started off. Exceeding honors in the name of the class I put and then and then I put extra special Impressions so I'll put like excellent helper or great friend or super creative or excellent leadership skills. Something unique for each student and then I had small cuts of a tree log and we talked about Out the rings on a tree and how you can see what their ages and the importance of sap, and WhatsApp needs to tree. And then we collected on the the nature grounds. Some sticks to decorate our stumps as a snowman face or or Rudolph face, a lot of them just did their own On drawings and put some glitter on there and something to take home. So it was a nice wrap up class. It's been pretty cold out here. These last few classes but we made it work and had a good time in nature and creating something creative.

YMCA/Sutro Elementary

Today is a teacher went smoothly. I did find, I had to, you know, because of the nature of the class being broken up into segments that were timed. I felt like I had to really stay on and re not really raised my voice, but a really get their attention to stay focused. It was a little less free draw than previous exercises. It was a little more like a Time decks. Versailles where they had to work with someone else. That was that's one point. The other thing was me and Miss Maria who works for YMCA realized there was there was a pair that were really getting each other worked up. So, you know, notice some kids that maybe need to be separated, and this class has a couple Duo's that need to be stayed. Did not a problem. Just something I'm noting. And additionally, the other point I wanted to make which I've made before about this class is just the age difference. That would be anywhere from four to seven year olds. So I feel like I've had to maybe simplify or re cultivate my lesson plan accordingly, some of the original lesson plans. Might have been a little tough but we've been flexible and organic and I move around the class and work with each student individually based on what they're trying to accomplish. So as a teacher, I guess that's the only thing with this particular class the age group tk2 first or second, I think just first grade, but I think there are six or seven years old is a distinct difference that I've mentioned. Before.

Hi. This is Jason I guess my recap didn't go through last week, but quick recap of that. We intro'd watercolor and they did the classic turkey hands. And then we continued with infertile watercolor with a wash on a large piece of paper. I lined the students up, I connected the long tables into one long table, and they worked across Ross from a teammate and we did a teamwork exercise where after five, they would switch what they were working on. They would flip the paper around and their partner would continue for another five minutes. We did that for I was going to do five increments, but it ended up being four and that was part. One of today's Class part 2 was, it's known kind of in the art, or writing world as it. Is it corpse but I called it Exquisite Santa and that involves folding a piece of paper into three pieces. And it was, another teamwork partnership class, but in this second part, I had them draw individually on the top portion of the page, and then flipping it over and passing the next middle section to there. Person to their left who did like the middle torso drawing to make a funny character and continue on for the last part of the page, the bottom or the feet. And, you know, I challenged them to be creative and challenge the next person in line to color in or create a funny creature and it went well and everything was timed out. Well,

Today, the teacher went really well, I guess the only it wasn't really a challenge for say but we went out up as a group with their clipboards and just to make sure that they always kept me in and I distance as well as Miss J. We always, you know, they formed there Exploring caterpillar line that we've kind of adopted since the beginning of this lesson. But then we started when they started kind of wandering, a little, we created the concept of a little wolf pack so we would howl, we would howl like who because the moon was out tonight and it's rather cold today, so they were all real troupers. But anyway, we started kind of a little wolf pack and that and they had fun with that and that kind of got them too. Come back to our little group and stick together otherwise yeah, everything was was paced. Well, the kids listened to stay off the golf course area and they had a lot of inquisitive questions and It went really great.

Hi this is Jason. Welcome back, Happy Thanksgiving today. Week 10 second to last week of nurturing nature Bay Breeze. Explorers we did our scavenger hunt which was very active less focused on Craft and creating and we didn't have as much discussion from the start about nature but we went out with clipboards and Piece of paper that I typed up and had printed with 24 questions. They ranged from what is blue, but not the sky, something an animal made. How do you think they made it collecting? They had a little collection pouch, collect something smoother, soft, something rough or textured tried to harken back to some of my previous lessons. See, if they remembered some of the Rocks we discussed. What is the sound we hear? In nature. What is the that's natural or unnatural? And maybe write a short poem. So I'll or haiku about it. So, also revisiting some old classes. Have you found anything? Muddy? Or wet? Something green. That is not grass or leaves. Anyway. I'm kind of just reading through everything, but click the y-shaped stick, the girls had a really fun time and they collaborated, and We all met back at the stairs, that lead up to the nature area, and we shared our discoveries and talked about why they happened. And we also talked about some man-made things that we found and collected, and it was it timed out really perfectly.

Today is a teacher when well I found that I think it was even more successful, the first half when we went exploring and talking about the wet weather and why bugs may come out and looking for nests and looking for places animals, lived and commenting on. There's a formation on the golf course where there was some rocks in a row, kind of where water would flow. And I then we, We talked about why those rocks were smooth in that area because water flows over them. Yeah. Anyway, as a teacher, it went well, when it became 4:30, the kids were still working on their projects, and they were back in the back of the school with me, or in the courtyard area, not Upfront for dismissal. So I felt like I had to really keep reminding them. Like, hey, our hour is up and Time for us to move up for dismissal, but it's kind of hard to get them to stop working and then they kind of were like collected. So that was kind of a new thing that happened. They just they just stayed working with me and were collected for dismissal like kind of one at a time as their as their parents or rides arrived other. Otherwise yeah, It's just a lot of cleanup for today as you. It's, it's five now it's after 5:00 now, and I didn't even attended this missile today and class went over time a little bit.

Hi. This is Jason as usual. We started in the garden with a brief introduction or this was part two of our gnome fairy house making and making little gnomes and fairies. So I started with an intro, a little bit of the history of where fairy myths and no myths, come from such things as Expressions. Knock on wood, sub scare away a little gremlins. And fairies how that myth started with algae growing on rocks and on wet days like today. And then we went up into the area behind the school up by the up the stairs by the golf course. And then it was a wet day so we saw some centipedes and found some notebooks and holes where an animal might live and talked about who might live in there and also found some algae or Mosses and lichens growing on trees. So we talked about how that related back to the myth of fairies and then everyone talked about how cold it was. So I reminded them of some of the things we discussed in the past about the Penguins forming, a huddle to stay warm and the importance of the trees that were up on the hill holding the soil together. So it kind of was a fun exploration. Where I was able to remind them of some other things that we learned about nature previously. When we went back, it was pretty tough to fit in the house construction but they had fun with it. A lot of them took home the pieces and a few of them completed the house. But yeah, it was definitely a jam-packed hour.

As a teacher today, the vibe was very upbeat and maybe less chaotic than previous classes with this age group, but yeah, it went really well. You know, I try to emphasize trying to work cleaner at the more efficiently at the start, but there was a little bit of a cleanup at the end. So you now it's, you know, 5:45 I'm just getting to my recap all. So it was great to hear some students were telling me, you know, like, oh I realized I wouldn't have time to do this larger scale idea. So I did something simpler and I was like, that's exactly what I was trying to emphasize how we should start. Our starter ideas. Start with something. Basic and build from there and they were, you know, reporting back to me that they enjoyed that and they could see that they were getting the finished product that they wanted without trying to do something to Grand from the beginning. And then they would get there as they built on it.

hi, this is Jason today was the third and final lesson on the fuse beads following the pixel art that I worked on with the colour-pop class similar to what I've learned with the pixel art really resonating with the students as a form of simple, ways of creating imagery with the fuse beads, they're able to take something tangible home and I It finally, really clicked with some rules. And I don't like to use the word rules, but I write on the dry erase board. Here, are some points and tips and some pointers that you guys can use. Number one, mr. Jason can help you. Number two, please, I need you to try number three, we're going to make things that are at least 20 to 30 beads and what was number four. Four. Oh, I showed examples of when a student, did a simple Snoopy last week, so I emphasized that building shapes, is the foundation of drawing or sculpture or all forms of art, including this to diffuse beating. So I showed them how to make simple shapes and then break away or like omit Corners to, you know, almost round the corners so that it did everything. I'm from clouds to a lot of them wanted to do. Little sushi rolls with grapes on top, super cute little imaginary machines but the important part was they really tried to put the colors together. A couple kids did rainbows versus random and Abstract so that was successful.

Burke's School

Today is a teacher, was probably the biggest challenge at Burke, because it was the first time, I think I'm seven or so lessons in, with this group. So, we know each other pretty well. But it was the first time that my support para, supervisor, Miss J, could not attend miscue that the dean basically of the school was almost going to attend, but she learned that we weren't going to step off campus. Apis to build for our materials for our houses until next week. So because I was on campus, I did the lesson alone, Miss J usually joins. I think she enjoys that anyway. It was really, it was hard to, you know, they weren't disruptive they were just like super silly and like having a good time and you know, realized it was just me and I played along and I got my penguin intro, comparison to what would be working on You know, I was able to bring it up throughout the class how they were going to be working together and I would say, hey, does anybody remember what we discussed earlier? But I was alone for the duration of this class, it got a little messy. And at the end, I had, you know, I had to emphasize. I'm here. Alone for dismissal as well as clean up. I need all of. I need all hands on deck, deck, helping me clean up, and it worked for the most part. No, major problems. it's just a little more running around and you know I realized you know put under put under the fire that way it I was capable of handling the group but it's certainly the volume and the vocal from me and them is a little lower. When it's two people Sue working on the class,

Hey this is Jason. We started part one of two of our gnome fairy houses kind of similar to our poetry two-part lesson which was you know haikus and then on a Mana P, alliteration and sounds and poetry. So starting with our house lesson I started the lesson disgusting the way penguins in nature work. Work in a huddle in cold temperatures. The the Phalanx formation that they build the warm Penguins on the inside and then the colder Penguins take turns protecting on the outside. So I intro'd that and segwayed into how they were going to. This is probably the biggest working together collaborative, cooperation Community lesson. We started with a, I had brought some seeds that I found from trees, and they painted them to be gnomes or fairies. I brought little hats that I sewed together and fairy wings that I cut and some gold flakes that they could sprinkle on when I used, I was in charge of the spray fix glue. And the second part was to build the exterior of their houses. So they decorated like wooden flat. That tongue depressor style sticks, they initialed both sides of the back, so they will keep 1/2 and then the second half will determine who they work with together next week to build their house for their little fairy or gnome or some some of them made Penguins. So, it was, I think really productive and they had a lot of fun.

As a teacher. Everything today went smooth. The only thing I would note is that the end ironing with the kids kind of stacked up. I really want to emphasize. If we do do this again that they should really focus on one project and we will iron it at the end because then they just started making small little objects and wanting me to iron them piece by piece. So we might have to work on that. Again, this is anywhere from TK to first graders, so those ages are quite different but I have I have my station where I'm like this is Mister Jason's ironing station. No one is to come back here. The iron is on the iron. Is hot cetera. Other than that. Yeah, it went over. I mean, it's now almost 6:00. So there was a little bit of a, you know, there is the joy of making the beads, but the beads were a little Messier this time. So there was a bit of a cleanup but otherwise that was pretty much it as a teacher.

Hi, this is Jason. Today was the second day of fuse beads inspired off of the pixel art but they created something physical, they can take home three-dimensional, they can take home, I started the lesson by emphasizing the structure of drawing or sculpture or fuse beads. The foundation of that is to create a simple shape and then Edit to amplify that shape. So I showed examples of rectangles creating a dinosaur or rectangles creating a flower stem and petals. I also showed examples of some of the work they did last week and how starting with something simple is better than reaching, for something overly complicated at first. So they, That seemed to resonate with them. Making simple animals hearts, a little boy, Wilson made Snoopy and he was really happy with it because he saw how simply you can just put together, white, black and red and make Snoopy, a couple of the other kids. Just wanted to do their multicolors thing, but I wrote on the board, I said these aren't rules, but number one, mr. Jason can help you. But number two, you have You have to try please. So at least try the lesson and we'll take it from there but I think overall it went well and Talking to the YMCA a team. It seems to be such a hit. We might try it one more week but just use smaller boards to hone in on those illustrating smaller objects for the time frame. We have

Today for a teacher went really well, it's always fun to see this group. I get there a little early each time at this particular school because they all are set up in the garden. And we kind of have like a pre class like, you know, hello and intro and then they talked about how they wanted to do charades and then I try and circle that back to what the class is going to be about. About ask them a little bit about Halloween. I was able to read the book I described in my first recap and they were laughing and enjoyed it. And I was, I was able to get the group to sit close enough so that everybody could enjoy the illustrations and I think the pace went really well. I think last time with the haikus that because they're Haiku form, they were able to do were three but this time they kind of all did about one longer poem, a couple stanza poem and then when I realized, you know, they were kind of done I suggested, they draw their animal band based on the onomatopoeias that they used in their poems that were things such as buzzing of bees or howling of Of coyotes or hooting of owls. So then they all had fun drawing their band. So I think it was well-paced and as always, miss J at the school. Helps with Distributing materials. If I'm focusing on one student, a little longer because maybe they need the extra, a couple extra minutes of help.

Hi, this is Jason. This was the seventh of 11 nurture, nature, Bay, Breeze, explorers, offline. Reconnecting classes in which it was the second of two classes where we focused on poetry. The first class last week, was Haiku this time. We focused on sounds in nature and I gave examples of onomatopoeia as Well, as alliteration I read examples in poetry that were short, you know, I try and keep it to like two stanzas and also obviously kid friendly but also not too naive and immature or not immature, but just too young and like something that evokes a little bit of thought for them because they're super smart kids. Anyway, then I read a book that I I described in my lesson plan coaching training called Poco and the drum which is about a little girl frog that goes out in nature and bangs our drum because her parents finally, let her do. So and then I ask them what kind of instruments, they might be, or what kind of instruments, other animals might be in nature. Then, with my prompt jar, they picked out on a Mana Pia words as prompts for their poems. Nobody worked on their poems for basically a little more than the second half of the class. And as with last week, they all shared their poem or if they didn't want to share it or requested that I read it for them, we did it that way and ended with a closing Circle that I congratulated them on. Probably the two most challenging of all the classes, the peak of our Mountain.

Today, the teacher went really well, I don't know if it was because I was out for a week but I bake I was able to gather their attention much better at the start. I definitely I used my voice to do so in, you know, in a friendly way but I was able to get their attention. We also set up the desks differently, we set it up in a long row and I walked around the three desks in a row versus the three scattered desks. I might try that again. And yeah the kids. Were way less disruptive and getting up. And, you know, yelling for my attention, they were way more Cooperative. So, that was an interesting observation. I don't know if it was the activity or the seating arrangement or the Just way I conducted the intro and I we had to Pace ourselves because I was ironing their fuse beads at the end. So I definitely stuck to a somewhat strict lesson plan as far as timing is concerned.

Hi, this is Jason. I might be submitting this twice but today it's halfway through my color pop art series with the TK through first graders I brought beads for and pipe cleaners for bracelets and safety pins for friendship pins. And I recommended, they make one for themselves and then one for their neighbor and we went over the colors of the rainbow roygbiv. I have colors and I just showed them how they're always in this order and this is how you can make good complementary colors. Reminding of our first lesson in this series and additionally I had my iron and we did fuse beads, some kids did some more abstract stuff and others. Did some really cool scenic's. And animals where they actually did complementary colors near each other. I have really beautiful photos of a couple examples to send.

Hey, this is Jason my first class back after a sub break of a week. I said this is a class. We're going to focus on our imaginations, more than materials be cut, and we did haikus and poetry. I brought some short examples by Emily Dickinson and Maya, Violet wild that were nature, poems and talk. it's about how they evoke their emotions through comparisons to Nature and people and I then I wrote several maybe like five haikus as examples and then I taught them the I told him about haikus what it meant and the 575 pattern and how it's a fun challenge to fit in everything you want to say within that succinct poem structure and Then we went out into nature of the up, the hill, and I had a jar of prompt words to get them started. So different words, you know, wind Cloud tree, various nature seasons snowberries, nature terms to prompt ideas, but by no means that they have to stick to that. But yeah, they had a good time sticking with the formula 575. I saw them a couple of the kids were working together and Other kids I could see them like counting on their fingers so super cute and they had a really good time with it and at the end they all shared their poetry on the step set a here at the Burke school. So they had a little like poetry. Poetry poetry slam is really fun.
