It went smoothly, there were also not as many students today.

Free play indoors, indoor pool and card games, then jumprope, soccer, volleyball, tag outside.

Smoothly, it felt like there was a bit of a smoother transition into the session today - what is challenging is the adding of additional students to Tiger Tales via the after school needs of the in-season sports teams [but not having them on my roster / not fully knowing who those students are]

More experiments in transitioning students into the session - giving snacks upon entrance, prompting students to grab a pencil, take out / reflect on what they would like to focus on in this next hour, and asking them how their day was, all before sending them into their seats. During the indoor time, we had sticker scene/dioramas for students to play with, notebooks, and Noe worked on helping some students with homework. After our first hour of homework, some students stayed inside for a dance party, and then some went outside to play with balloons, soccer, volleyball, and jumprope.

Offering students structured options to do in parallel to their homework seemed to go well [in terms of building a routine of getting it out, but not necessarily needing to do it right away]. I'm thinking about the context of students having come out of quite a bit of sitting still, and how the first hour of the afterschool session can be a bit challenging as a time to do homework -- thinking about how to build in time to wiggle/shake/diffuse some of the built up energy that understandably comes out.

We worked on homework and notebooks, then outside jump roped, and practiced getting students to turn the rope for one another. Additionally, students played soccer, volleyball, hide and seek, and raced each other on timed laps.

It went well - I am noticing that the physical layout of the space makes a huge difference in students accessing their needed materials, and setting up a calm first 15 minutes of the session, which shapes how grounded the rest of the time feels.

Today students worked on drawings and writing prompts in their notebooks, and afterwards we played jump rope, soccer, and volleyball outside.

This day went well for me, with the additional support of tutors present.

The USF tutors were there for the weekly Monday tutoring - there were 5 tutors, which helped with focusing students on homework this day. A lot of homework was done, and then we had free play outside.

- Maintained the mixed age group seating chart that seemed to work well in getting students to generally stay at their seats, with some small changes - We did another front of class rules check in today, and there was a lot of responsiveness to it, though we also followed up with marking when we talk to students (some clarification needed on what the progressive consequences are) - Students generally asked to use the restroom, and stayed in their seats, but there was a bit of getting up and roaming around, but the energy felt more grounded and gathered around tables β€” was able to follow up with a parent to explain that there was some difficulty with a student - Principal Lara said that USF committed to having more tutors around in two weeks, which sounds super supportive - More students did homework and drew β€” I felt like I had more capacity to offer touch and go homework help that would unblock students, but still a challenge to make the space one where students could consistently focus when many are excited about socializing - Outside, students played tag in respective and mixed age groups which was really sweet, it felt like it came out of the groups being a bit more mixed up in the cafeteria - thinking about how to offer praise and positive enforcement too β€” when someone is helping someone else with homework, when someone is cleaning up, when someone facilitates a conflict mediation β€” many lovely things students are doing

This felt like the steadiest (but still a little chaotic) session to date with more students doing homework. For future sessions, I am thinking it would be significant for Ms. Lara or another teacher to be there to get students started with their homework [many of them saying that they do not have homework], and helpful to maybe have digital copies of homework packets [when possible] to have students working on in some form

Today, we did homework, coloring pages, and drawing. I handed out folders for students to keep their after school drawings in, and also offered journals for them to practice writing. More students did homework in part because I split the tables into grades, and because I said we would do snack after everyone was sitting

Assigning seating helped the flow a lot today, as did having teachers who made sure students stayed in line while checking in We had more students working on homework today, which felt like a huge win - it felt like it came out of the auditorium being calmer than yesterday with assigned seating More students were also engaged with drawing and coloring today Making asks of students before giving them a snack also helped a lot -- today's ask was for them to label a folder to put their coloring pages and drawings into Continuing to dismiss at 4 was helpful, the USF volunteer + Noe were very helpful in supporting students in homework -- I messaged during session in the Slack about getting information from teachers + parents about the kind of homework their students are assigned / ways they'd like for their students to be supported, so I can make more direct asks / nudges I am thinking about grouping students by grade so that they can work on homework together

~ Students created folders for their after school work (coloring, drawing) ~ Students worked on homework packets ~ Played soccer, basketball

It went both more smoothly in the entering the auditorium, and the offering activities to kids, and difficult in getting students to stay focused in a quiet time activity - but it was very helpful to have the consequence of calling parents/staff + the 4pm as the ending for the quiet time [so they know it is finite] I have some ideas that I will try in the next session (mentioned in my first answer)

I retrieved the attendance [which is now in a binder, with previous days’ sheets, and the key card and keys], and chatted with Ms. Tatiana at the front desk about all of the supplies she organized in the cubbies in the teacher’s lounge, which I really appreciated Checked in students at the front of the auditorium, which was really helpful + had Noe pass out snacks, which was great [in the future, thinking that we will have students be more spaced out] I labeled off 5 tables with post-it notes to split students between, laid out supplies and gave students three choices between homework, coloring pages, reading [in the future, thinking that students need to first pick out an activity and get settled in *before* they get a snack] Students kept getting up / distracted / bored, they wanted to chat with their friends and otherwise kept running around a bit [thinking about ways to redirect or harness some of this social energy into a shared activity with the opening circle] Students said that they did not have homework, but Ms. Lara confirmed that everyone should have homework at this point + would ask teachers to ask students to write homework down in their binder At 4pm we lined them up dismissed them to play outside We watered the plants, played jump rope, volleyball, and soccer outside, then did some drawing Noe also brought drawing materials, and there were some lovely drawings at the end of different students that they did I texted families about lost & found items

Today went smoother, in thanks to both the USF volunteer, Jose, and the enrichment teacher, Noe β€” it was also helpful to walk through some student norms with Ms. Lara and for her to be out on the blacktop to establish some ground rules with students β€” I also feel at this point pretty familiar with the general flow, logistical details, and familiarity with the students I am excited to craft more programming knowing that having a separate space from the other concurrent after school activities (which was throwing me off a bit) to create a check in ritual

~ Students lined up at the top of the steps as I signed them in, and then another teacher passed them snacks ~ Chatted with Ms. Lara about having teachers bring students all the way into the auditorium instead of the black top for check-in [for the future - planning to label the tables to split students up between, and to make time for check in ritual ~ ^ recognizing this did not previously occur because my first day was back to school night, when the auditorium was not available / the meeting on the blacktop made it hard to establish norms ~ Students engaged in movement exercises with the enrichment teacher, and then there was outdoor play - soccer and tag ~ Worked on homework with a student in the auditorium
