It went well; it feels like there is rapport even as the kids also seem more restless
- indoors, worked on homework, continued name tag plates, played pool, drew building a habit around checking in and out with the name tags β struggling with having materials prepped and on hand, and struggling with keeping students contained to one section of the space (working on the materials part, and going to try to enforce seating chart a little bit more) - materials prep: there are many boxes of unsorted materials β sorted and split excess crayons into bags after the boxes were destroyed & sharpened more crayons - chatted with the principal about getting kids to clean up after themselves, about overflow of students into aftercare, and about places to store materials - students played soccer, volleyball, and house outside, had to keep reminding them to not play with a stick - in the hour helped students with homework

Overall well, the table close to the table with all of the materials was helpful as an additional spot for students to sit at I notice that prep of/ access to materials really makes or breaks how well students can settle into doing homework, and it is difficult to set up / clean up / reset materials each day Messaged principal to ask about behavioral standards Overflow of students from an afterschool period whose teacher was absent, more students than usual in the auditorium - unclear which students might also be drop in for Tiger Tales
Prepped name tag plates to work on across the week, just asked everyone to write their names on name tag -- kinders were most responsive to this, as it was meaningful practice for them to write their names Students played soccer, volleyball Collected balls from the playground after they were left behind Helped one student with their math homework, another with their hundred days vest Gave a bandaid to a student who was injured

It felt both more controlled and chaotic β I am thinking about the simple factor of if and when materials are accessible β what students need to run up to either Noe or I to ask for vs what they can find intuitively or habitually find β in one way many students settled into homework and activities, in another way, it does feel like there is some pattern in playing hide and seek in the auditorium Question for grasshopper - I wonder about what kinds of strategies we can try for expending some pent up energy even while we have the constraint of being inside
(01/22/26) Lots of adhoc things β set up a drawing exercise with one student and looked up photos for them to reference; did practice math problems with Nyla; responded to a conflict between Alejandro / David where we had to sit out for 10 minutes while they were throwing paper airplanes β today I felt a lot of my attention on keeping watch to ask kids to put away their things (the large space + not established storage space for outside play and inside activities makes setting up difficult)

Kids were more distractible today [they seem to be more restless on Wednesdays] - had sweet moments, like a student braiding my hair, and different moments to respond to - like students needing water, bandaids -- they've started playing hide and seek in the auditorium, so that has taken a bit more corralling to get in control of, but playing music has been very helpful for settling kids down - it is tough to have to set and reset materials without a permanent classroom each day
01/21/26 homework, paper crown making, practicing cleaning up inside by making a game out of sweeping with brooms into dustpan; played music for kids to dance to; helped kids with a bit of homework [but they were very distracted]; soccer and volleyball outside

(01/20/2026) Today went smoothly, having the supplies organized from last week made a big help in getting students situated for the session!
Ugly frog drawing contest, 100 day of school vest drawings, jump roping outside

It felt chaotic, students have been playing hide and seek inside, and there wasn't enough time to set up another activity today
Inside, played with sticker scenes + sheets Soccer and volleyball outside, played music and danced inside; used the downtime to sort the supplies, which have been disheveled / often wrecked - it feels like a big barrier to offering more hands on activities - that there isnβt enough time to set up / break down amid the other day-to-day tasks
