Lakeshore Alternative Elementary School

As the teacher today, I think class went fine. I want to say that because there was actually another teacher with what the kids in the first group today, that was a huge help. So really reinforcing like the classroom rules. Raise your hand when you have a question. So, I noticed it having like, maybe sometimes that the teacher in the classroom, where the pair are something definitely really helps, you know, setting the tone for like Behavior expectations even like keeping the kids focus on, you know, the task at hand or you know, what was on the agenda for today. So that was a big help for me as a teacher. There were no issues today. You know, I had my lesson plan kind of planned out which was the craft activity and that's exactly what we did. I had the materials prepared so I didn't experience any issues as the teacher and you know, of course, if I do, I will definitely share them.

For this class on October, 31st Halloween, I rubbed a little bit early so that I could write the class rules on the board. This included no talking when the teachers talking and when I say grasshopper grasshopper you say grasshopper kids. So I wanted to kind of just start out with some rules. So at first there was a smaller group and the activity that I had planned for today, terms of the agenda was to bake craft bags. So blank bags that I bought out of paper where you Neither decorate and have it. Be your Halloween candy basket for site, or you can turn it upside down into an animal puppet. So, I drew some examples of funny Halloween creatures and scary creatures on the board. I also said that it didn't have to be halloween-related and it could be, you know, any animal that actually exist or as part of their imagination. So fictional or true. So essentially, that was the activity that took up most of the class, the materials that I had brought were multi colored markers. Glitter pens. Or like glitter glue pens. What else? The paper bags? And I forgot the third or the last item. But essentially, I had the craft for the kids today and and the kids made their thing and they took them home and they were happy. So that was the gist of today's class. Unfortunately, the larger group did not come in today because it was Halloween and everybody went home. So the there was early dismissal and that's about it for today.

Burke's School

This was a great group of kids. I started the class out with setting some class rules, and making introductions to the students and introducing myself as a substitute teacher, this was for about 5 minutes, then I opened to, I opened with some openers. So some open-ended questions, like what was the craziest thing you've ever seen or found in nature. You know, maybe I want a family vacation or on a nature, walk with your family and some kids, shared some pretty pretty funny examples that we talked about a little bit. And then I set the expectation that we were going to go on a nature, walk that took up most of the time. So we actually had kind of an open campus walked which the teacher said was. Okay, we walked around the, you know, the school is a class and then later came back to the Garden area which was available to us. That was really helpful and did the remainder of our kind of nature. Search nature walk there in the garden area after that. Oh sorry. The focus of the nature walk was really to pay special attention and close attention to, you know, From smells different textures different you know, plants that look strange and things like that and definitely not to eat anything poisonous. And then also, there's this question of, is this man-made? Did somebody make this, or is this straight from nature? So people are finding beads on the ground and fun little objects like that. So those were those were good conversation starters as well. And then what we did after the nature walk was we shared our findings for 10 minutes. So some people wanted to share in some people did it and we said that that was okay. So if you want To share you could. And if you didn't want to, you didn't have to finally the after sharing findings, we had an activity of sketching. What you found if you wanted to, but we had to improvise a little bit for this class because I wasn't able to bring any writing utensils. But one student had this really great idea that you could actually sketch with pieces of grass and green plants and flowers that we had found would actually ended up working out and people were also making confetti out of flowers, which is a really, really cool Discovery. So So that ended up taking about the rest of the time after the nature walk and the discussion. And then after that, we went on to clean up and dismissal the front office.

Mission Dolores Academy

This class went well- I met the main afterschool coordinator and we worked together to keep an eye on all the kids, manage disruptive behaviors and provide fun and safe activities for all the kids. We had another helping hand from another volunteer from another organization in the last hour or so, so that was a big help. Overall I had a great time with some wonderful kids and teachers and am very glad I had a chance to help out.

During today's enrichment session at Mission Dolores, I arrived around 2:30. 2:45 p.m. students were in the main room or the auditorium room where they just basically had snacks and we're celebrating someone's birthday and playing games. They did this until about 3:00 3:30 p.m. and we all went outside for some outdoor enrichment activities including like basketball games, Legos puzzle. All's we had a few tables of kids who are also drawing, so that was also a good activity. We did this until about between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 or sorry, 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. when all of the students finally got picked up. So overall it was a good session. There were no major issues, you know, myself and other staff had to reinforce the no running Rule and safety with all the students, but there really weren't any overall issues. Who's the kids were pretty well-behaved. Although very energetic, but overall it was a good session today.
