Class went well. The older kids usually are better listeners and I think this recipe was good for their age group.

Today the kids made spring rolls. We watched a short video, went over knife safety and began cutting up veggies for the spring rolls. They each got to roll up their own spring roll with fillings of their choosing.

Class was a bit chaotic. I think this recipe was a little mature for them.

Today the kids made spring rolls. It was a bit of a mess they had to do eome cutting and mixing. The younger kids just have a harder time with paying attention but they all got to create a spring roll with stuff inside they like.

Class went well today. The students are genuinely interested in gardening and identifying the different plants. I think they also like to physically plant things so I’m assuming that will be a challenge in the coming weeks given we cannot plant something every week because of the time frame of the class

Today the kids and I talked about what is in soil and compost. We did a little game of what can and can’t we compost. We looked through the soil we used last week to see if we recognize any material. We also played a “guess the fruit by the flower” game. I also brought some library books on gardening and the kids were free to look through them during class. They updated their gardening journals and also took home Lima beans in a plastic bag with a wet paper towel to sprout at home.

Class went well today. It’s nice to be out in the garden, I think the kids are just more interested in the physical planting than learning and so I’m assuming that is going to pose a challenge in the coming weeks given that we can’t really plant much since a lot of things won’t grow in the time frame.

Today the kids and I went over what is in soil and what is in compost. We did a little game of what can and can’t we compost. We looked through the soil we used last week to see if we could recognized any of the materials in it and we also put a bean in a ziploc bag with a wet paper towel and I instructed the kids to tape it to a window at home for it to sprout!

Class went very well. I’m really enjoying this group. They are a small group and so it’s pretty easy to manage when someone’s having trouble with something I can always move around and help out.

Today the class and I talked a little about our weeks and then we began a butterfly/flower pipe cleaner ring project. Some of the students just wanted to make pipe cleaner rings so they were free to do that and then one of the students offered to teach everyone to finger knit last week so I brought some yarn and we did some finger knitting as well.

Class went well, the group was a bit smaller and they were just not as distracted. The space is still a tough place to have a cooking class because it’s just a long table in the cafeteria. We did finish a little early so I am interested to see how it goes for future classes given that we did two recipes today.

Today we introduced ourselves went over what the class entails and talked about little about their likes dislikes and things they’re open to trying. We then split the group in two and one group made mango lassi while the other made spiced chickpeas. They were a great group, we talked about the spices we used and the cardamom in the mango lassi and I got their feedback on what they thought about it. We finished pretty early so we got to talk about what are the possible recipes for future classes

It was pretty overwhelming. Having a big group like that and not really being in a space where I can have all their attention was pretty difficult. And trying to help out each group proved to be pretty challenging but in the end we were able to finish in time and clean up but the space definitely does not help it was just a long table in the middle of the lunchroom.

We introduced ourselves. Went over their yucks and yums. We split the groups, one group made mango lassi and the other made spiced chickpeas. And then they served everything to everyone so they all got to try. In the end I asked how they liked it and if they had any suggestions for other things we could make.

Class went well, it was a smaller class so it was nice to get to know the students and they had lots of opportunity to share about their own experience with gardening which they each had. I felt good about the class but I am also wondering how it’s going to be with 8 weeks of class because the students really like hands on work but there’s only so much we can plant and actually get results in this time

I got to know the students a bit and asked them about what plants they grow at home. We talked about the importance of gardening and plants and I passed out their gardening journals. Then we planted marigolds and basil and walked around the school garden.

Class went well. There were a lot of students but it wasn’t too hard to keep them on task. Some of them did say they were feeling bored but I feel good that we used up all our time and we were able to do some learning as well S some hands on learning.

Today in class we got to know eachother a little bit. I passed out gardening journals, we talked about the importance of plants, gardening, what kind of plants the kids have grown at home. We also did a seed guessing game. Then we planted some marigold flowers and some basil.

Very well, I really enjoyed getting to know the students and hearing about what they’re interested in so I could plan future classes with them in mind. We used different materials like felt, pipe cleaners, foam paper, constructions paper, markers to create our projects. One student was a little excited and got distracted easily but other than that class went well.

The students and I introduced ourselves, went over class expectations, and did an art project to present ourselves and our interests.
