Brittan Acres

It went well I’d say. The k-1st grade were a little quiet, but the 2-3rd graders had some great engaging questions. So it was a good balance. It was a lot of students, over 300 total, so a well attended session.

My PowerPoint slides were updated and I had all my props for the session in order.

San Francisco Day School

The kids had a lot of energy since it’s an afterschool program so I think just remembering to do some movement activities to engage to get them going as important.

The kids were really engaged with my stem activities. Although I didn’t have enough batteries for all the kits for their creations, I remedied this by allowing them to take them home and to get batteries from their house to use for the kits.

San Francisco Day School

Went better than last week. Since this is my second week, the kids know me a little better now, and I know them a little better as well. I was mostly able to keep them engaged, but they really want to build stuff since this series is focused on engineering.

I had multiple copies lesson plans to choose from. Since STEAM wasn’t my original lesson plan for this series, and I just found out about the change last week, I’ve been spending some time brainstorming what STEAM activities to do each week with the kids.

Synapse School

It went well. Lots of great questions all the way to the end, in fact we ended up going a few minutes over to be sure everyone got to ask their question.

I had the slide show updated to the schools current curriculum and learning modules.

Neil Cummins Elementary

It went well I’d say. The students sat nicely for the large group size, and were attentive nearly most of the time.

Today I did a presentation for 450 students at Neil Cummins elementary school for morning assembly. I introduce them to who I am and my work as a park Ranger at three different national parks. I talked about coast redwoods and the park I work at now which is Muir Woods. We talked about Redwood ecology, and the habitat they provide for animals and plants that call the forest home. I had a slideshow presentation. I asked questions along the way and had some different props that I showed the students. At the end, there was time for questions and answers by students.

Adrian was awesome this morning! The kids were engaged, and active listeners the whole time, and when he opened it up for questions the kids were thoughtful and asked related questions to his presentation. Thank you, Adrian!!
